Putin’s Anti-Swearing Law Forces “Pussy Riot” To Change Name To “Vagina Riot”

Members of punk band “Pussy Riot” have decided to change the band name to “Vagina Riot”, only several days after Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a legislation which will impose fines for swearing in works of art.
Band members say that their decision to change the name will not influence their music and the message they are trying to send.

“Ban on swearing relates to all forms of artistic expression, which certainly includes our band as well. We did not want to take chances and keep the old name, because that might close the door for us in many Russian media”, said band member Nadezhda Tolokonnikova.

She says that she is aware of the fact that many fans are emotionally attached to the previous name, hoping that they will quickly get used to the new one, because it also metaphorically represents a mutiny against the female genitalia.

“Name of the band is not of importance to us, and as long as we continue to criticize the Russian President and the Orthodox Church, our audience will be pleased. Of course, when we break into a church in the future and interrupt the service, we shall refrain from swearing. But everything we have to say can be said in a nice way too, without using foul language”, said Tolokonnikova and added that they are already practicing the upcoming diversion in which the word “fuck” will be replaced with „make love“.
