Paris Saint Germain Signs Roman Abramovich As New Club Owner
PARIS (The Global Edition) – French Football club Paris Saint Germain managed to strengthen its team by buying Roman Abramovich, owner of Chelsea FC. Qatar Sheikh, who owns the Parisian club, deemed the purchase of the rich club owner “necessary in order to increase Paris Saint Germain’s chances of winning trophies.”
PSG’s management issued an official statement last night affirming that Abramovich had successfully passed all financial checks and that he had signed a four year contract with the club right after that.
The financial details of the transfer have not been made public, but unofficial sources say that Paris Saint Germain, along with the money, traded two rich Sheikhs to Chelsea as replacement for Abramovich.
“Football is business and without great investments there are no big results,” Sheikh Nasser al Khelaifi, one of PSG’s owners, told The Global Edition. “In order to allow significant financial resources to enter the club, we needed an experienced rich owner, and the choice was logical. Roman Abramovich has made some great business deals with Chelsea in the last decade,” said Mr. Al Khelaifi.
“Abramovich was not our only option, because we negotiated with Suleyman Kerimov, owner of FC Anzhi from Makhachkala and Rinat Akhmetov, who owns FC Sahtior, but Abramovich was at the top of our wish list because he led Chelsea to the European Champions League title,” said new Abramovich’s owner.
Mr. Al Khelaifi added that Paris Saint Germain will not spare any of its financial resources to become the team with most trophies this year, and that they have already made Real Madrid an offer to buy all their trophies.
