Miramax To Put The Upcoming Mohammed Biopic Starring Nicolas Cage On Hold
Nicolas Cage says he is sure the audience would have loved his portrayal of Mohammad
HOLLYWOOD, (The Global Edition) — Movie company ‘Miramax Films’ will reportedly stop the shooting of a historical action thriller based on the life of Islamic prophet Mohammed with Nicolas Cage in the main role, Hollywood sources report. The production of the so far unnamed movie was put on hold after the studio received the news that another Mohammad movie, “Innocence of Muslims” did not fare so well with the audiences around the world. Box office reports show that, despite the aggressive advertising campaign, this independent film not only failed to make a profit, but even caused loss of lives and several million dollars worth of damages.
Nicolas Cage, who was cast in the main role as “middle-aged, delusional Mohammed”, says he is disappointed with the decision to put the movie on hold, but glad “he got paid up front”.
“It’s a pity this movie will wind up in production hell, because I feel I managed to really portray my character in a way previously unseen. He was basically a combination of some of my previous characters – there was a little bit of ‘Bangkok Dangerous’, a bit of ‘Vampire’s Kiss’, and a touch of ‘Ghost Rider’ role,” says Mr. Cage who added that he hopes movie will be done after all, along with planned sequels.
Angry Muslim crowd, who gave the previous Mohammad movie lousy reviews, said they doubted Nicolas Cage could portray the prophet in a satisfying way, but that “they are prepared to give it a shot”.
